VIERANAS SAFARIS just received the latest update from Air Namibia on their flight distruptions due to the volcanic activity in Iceland, herewith the update:


As all other airlines Air Namibia must comply with directives issued by relevant authorities in the aviation industry. Due to the recent volcanic eruption in Iceland which has left many European countries’ airspace restricted, Frankfurt too has been affected. In Germany all airports have shut down. All arrivals and departures from these airports have been cancelled until further notice.

A reliable forecast regarding the airspace restrictions is still not available. Air Namibia was compelled to suspend all flights scheduled since Friday, April 16th 2010, until further notice.

We request Passengers not to travel to the airports and to contact Air Namibia.

Arrival & Departure

Passengers whose flights have been suspended will be rebooked free of charge subject to seat availability, all travel must be completed by 31 of May,2010.

Alternatively, if they wish to cancel their ticket, they will receive a refund. For refunds they can contact Air Namibia offices.

Non-flown tickets will be fully refunded. Partly flown tickets will be refunded pro-rata.

The change in booking must take place no later than three weeks after the original flight.

At present it is not possible to predict how the air traffic situation in Europe will progress. Air Namibia is keeping a close eye on developments and is in constant contact with the relevant authorities.

We are keeping our flying schedule under constant review and will aim to provide as much information as possible through above mentioned Air Namibia channels.

Air Namibia wishes to confirm its commitment to our passengers and once restrictions have been lifted, additional flights will be implimented to passengers who are affected.
